Dan Perez of Whitetail Properties scored on this mature 140 class 8 point buck in Pike County, Illinois on November 9, 2011. Below is a picture and field report from his hunt.

We hunted an area I call Heartbreak Ridge, the weather conditions were perfect for this spot.  A cool wind was blowing out of the NW, carrying our scent away from where we expected deer to approach.  We got in our stands at 12:30 pm and by 2pm we’d already seen 5 different bucks!  Heartbreak is a ridge was hoping!  There was grunting going on and does were running in every direction.

It was around 2pm when we spotted a real nice looking eight pointer chasing a couple of does away from our perch.  I remember saying to Joe, “he’ll be back.”  Sure enough, an hour later here comes a doe with the buck a few second behind.  They were heading down a trail that would put them within bow range!  If they stayed on course there was a little opening that would provide a shot, so with my bow in one hand and my range finder in the other I got ready.  When she walked through the opening I ranged her at 31-yards.  I put away my range finder away and got in position.  A few seconds later the buck walked through the same opening, I stopped him with a bleat and turned loose a Rocket Sidewinder that ripped through ribs and dropped him in his tracks! It doesn’t always work this way, that’s why these are the kind of hunts you’ll never forget
