New Archery Products 100 grain ShockwaveAccuracy 5 points Total score: 22 with a blade sharpness rating of B+ This was the first mechanical head that truly impressed me. It shoots accurately, is strong, the blades are sharp, and it opens quickly. The tip is larger than most mechanical heads, or most heads in general for that matter. I believe this helps aid penetration, and protects the blades from severe damage under heavy impact. In the accuracy department the shockwaves did very well. You do have to pay special attention to the O- rings that hold the blades close though. Make sure they are secure, and the blades are tight in the ferule. In the plywood the Shockwave got though most of the way, with the blades buried up halfway, and the tip and most of the ferule sticking out, this it typical of three blade heads with cutting diameters of 1 ¼” or larger. In the steel drum the head busted through the first side, with the tip sticking in the far side .The tips of two blades broke off, but no cutting surface was lost. I was impressed with the steel drum performance to say the least. Most mechanical heads don’t do nearly as well. In the orange the head had fully opened by the time it exited, again this is very good performance. The Shockwaves are a fast opening head that combine strength and accuracy in one package. If you are looking for a swing open type head with three sharp blades of modest cutting diameter, this is my first choice. Please note as more test information becomes available, it will be updated and posted. Make sure you check back periodically to see if the head you're curious about shows up on the measuring tape. If you’re interested in donating a head for testing, email ckfitch3@aol.com or visit Huntingforums.com, Bows and Arrows forum and see 5shot. Thank you and enjoy.
