The Game tracker first cut expandable is a typical swing open style mechanical broadhead. The blades are held in place by a small rubber band. This head does have a different tip than the normal chisel point found on most broadheads today. It is actually a blade style cut on contact tip. It is large enough to make the wound channel bigger and is should help with penetration in soft materials. I found the accuracy to be excellent, with the head flying and grouping just like my field points. In the plywood test the head completely penetrated the wood, stopping at the very back of the arrow where the fletching begins. It did break one blade off however. In the orange the head had fully opened by the time it exited the back. In the Steel drum the first cut penetrated the first wall, but lost both blades in the process. The first cut is not a bad head, but the blades are a weak link. I don’t think you would loose blades on most shots into deer size game, but if you hit a hard shoulder it is possible. The blade sharpness out of the package was good, and the accuracy of the head is excellent. I do however think there are better heads for the money. On the other hand there are also heads that are a lot worse. I would rate the first cut about middle of the road as far as performance goes, not great, but not terrible either. Please note as more test information becomes available, it will be updated and posted. Make sure you check back periodically to see if the head you're curious about shows up on the measuring tape. If you’re interested in donating a head for testing, email ckfitch3@aol.com or visit Huntingforums.com, Bows and Arrows forum and see 5shot. Thank you and enjoy.
