Product:

Today’s product is the Non-Typical Aluminum Rapid Rails made by Ameristep out of Clio Michigan.

Product Description:

Ameristep Non-Typical Rapid Rails are a four piece climbing stick/system made of aluminum. They also come in one piece extensions, an extra wide series and steel versions.

Thoughts and Comments:

I have tried every available way there is to climb trees to take advantage of an elevated stand. Thirty years plus of deer hunting, and the fact that I am not as spry as I used to be, has led me to look for easier and safer methods to set tree stands. I feel I have found it with the Non-Typical Rapid Rails from Ameristep.

These aluminum ladder sticks attach separately to the trunk of a tree and can be used on almost any snarly tree that you can find. They come as a set of four sticks for the same price as most of their competitors, which normally include only three. The sticks have no moving parts and are extremely light and easy to attach to the tree. Your feet are enclosed within the rungs to keep from slipping, and you can hold onto the side rails just like climbing a ladder.

Furthermore, Ameristep sells an extension rail that is slightly longer and cradles with the rest of the rails for easy packing in. With this set of five rails I can easily set my stands at a true 24” height if need be. After using rapid rails for the past few seasons I feel I have found the best climbing system in the industry and now rarely use anything else.

Pros:

  • Lightweight, Simple, Safe
  • No moving parts
  • Quick-Connect Speed Strap
  • Fits Small, large and Irregular-Shaped Trees
  • Easily Packs with Hang-Ons
  • V-Step for Increased Footing
  • Aircraft-Grade Aluminum
  • Non-Reflective Powder Coated
  • Rated for 300 lbs.
  • Weighs Approx. 14.5 lbs.

Cons:

  • These sticks take up a little more space in your vehicle than some other brands, but I feel it is worth it for the design. Also, you must be careful to keep the straps as close to horizontal as you can on the tree, because if you have too much slack the rails may sometimes squeak against the wood when climbing. I usually wrap a little tape on the ends so there is no aluminum against wood making them totally silent.

Rating:

The ease of use gives these climbing sticks 9.5 out of 10!!!
