Here’s some information from the American Hunting Lease Association.  This new innovative group provides hunters, individuals or clubs, with much needed liability coverage commonly required by landowners. Check out their site when you have some time, a link is provided at the bottom of the post.

So the landowner of your hunting lease is making you get hunting liability insurance. Well, don’t be cussing him just yet. He may be doing you a big favor. Although he is concerned about his exposure, as a hunter you should be just as concerned. A few dollars spent on hunting lease insurance for protection while you and your hunting club members recreate could be the best investment you make this year.

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say one of your hunting buddies forgets to put his safety harness on and the lock on stand that you hung fails. The cable breaks and he falls 25 feet to his death. His lovely wife that you have known for 8 years now has four mouths to feed off of his social security death benefits because he had very little life insurance. Now she could go back to work at the local diner and find daycare for her two youngest kids but that attorney at church has another idea as he gets to poking around about the incident. She knows it was an accident but now she has been backed into a corner and the claws are coming out. Do you have the financial means to defend yourself?

The beauty of hunting lease liability insurance is the fact that the insurance company is obligated to defend you whether it is a frivolous case or not. Make sure your policy includes member to member coverage. We can control a lot of outcomes in the woods but when tragedy strikes, it is better to be safe than sorry. This is just one liability scenario that could come into play and the one than bites you will probably be one you never even considered.

As hunters become more and more aware of liability exposures that exist, the more often it is them that initiates the hunting liability insurance purchase.  An educated hunter is a better hunter. The peace of mind a hunting lease insurance policy brings speaks for itself. For more information about hunting club insurance visit American Hunting Lease Association at www.ahuntinglease.org.
