Hunters Hints for Game Calling

 By Jim Strelec

Just because it worked yesterday does not mean it will work today or tomorrow. Turkeys are smart, perhaps smarter at one time or another than some of us.

It’s been said that variety is the spice of life, don’t get locked into doing the same old things. Let’s look at calling.

Mouth diaphragms are great, but they are not for everyone. Being able to use other calls, like boxing calls or the new aluminum calls, will give you, the hunter, many different sounds.

You might want to take on the approach of two turkeys fighting. To accomplish this, you would need to know how to use a set of fighting purr calls. This type of calling may be the easiest of all to use.

Another approaches for a different call might be a tube call. This call is held outside the mouth. It will produce all the turkey sounds, including a booming gobble.

Staying versatile with your calling can pay big dividends toward you success. My last point is for each hunter to remember that whatever calls you choose to use be able to use them all effectively.
