Heading out for Dangerous Game in Africa
Tags: Tim Herald's Blog //
Well, I just finished packing for a dangerous game hunt in the Chirisa area of Zimbabwe with HHK Safaris. I leave tomorrow (Wed) and will be in camp on Friday. It’s a long ride! My #1 target species is Cape Buffalo, but also on the menu is hippo (kill more people in Africa than anything), heyena, kudu, Livingstone eland, impala, warthog, chobe bushbuck, and I just found out a few days ago that a leopard has come up on quota. I am not turning the hunt into a 10 day leopard hunt, but I wouldn’t mind to do a couple sits if we had one hitting a bait. Of course I don’t expect to take all of these animals, but they are available.
I am taking 2 TC Encore Pro Hunters - a .375 H&H and a .416 Rigby. They both shoot great, but having only one shot is tough on dangerous game.
We have a 6 seater plane chartered into camp just for me and my cameraman Ryan Cornish so we should have plenty of room. Last day we are going to visit Victoria Falls. We hope to get 3-4 shows for 2008 Outdoor America. We are taking 2 regular cameras and a new lipstick cam (many know them as Benelli cams) to mess around with. We will have plenty of time to figure it out on the 17 hour flight from NY to S Africa. We are really going to revamp Outdoor America and make it a much better show.
Cape buff and Brown Bear are #1 & #2 on my forever wish list so I am really pumped to get this opportunity. Africa really does get in your blood. After a plainsgame hunt in 2005, I have been planning this trip non-stop and already have a Namibia bowhunt with Tom Nelson of American Archer scheduled for next July. I will go every year if possible.
I hope by the time I get back on Sept 7th I have plenty of good photos and stories to share. I know it will be exciting and hope that the footage turns out good. Everyone take care and for those of you that are hunting this early, good luck and be safe…Tim H.
